Snyderville, United States of AmericaPendry Park CityCanyons Village is the newer, western base of Park City Mountain, a planned resort village in the Snyderville Basin on the Wasatch Back, thirty-five minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport and a ten-minute drive from the Victorian storefronts of Old Town’s Main Street, and Pendry Park City, opened in February 2022 as the first mountain property from Irvine-based Pendry Hotels & Resorts, was built to be its centre of gravity. Three contemporary buildings by SB Architects frame a new plaza at the foot of the slopes and hold 153 guestrooms, suites and residences, which run from king rooms to studios with kitchenettes to two-bedroom apartments of 3,600 square feet with family bunk rooms, nearly all of them privately owned and rented through the hotel when their owners are elsewhere. The project was co-developed with Columbus Pacific, the Dublin, Ohio firm behind much of the new village, and since November 2025 the Sunrise Gondola has loaded beside the hotel, so the walk from boot room to lift is a matter of yards across the ski beach. Pendry is the younger sibling of Montage, whose Montage Deer Valley is about five miles away, and the brand was co-founded by Michael Fuerstman, son of Montage founder Alan Fuerstman, with the resort itself run by general manager John Rolfs. The interiors, by KES Studio, work in warm wood, stone and metal, contemporary alpine instead of log-cabin pastiche, and the food programme sits under executive chef Kevin Lee, who emigrated from South Korea at sixteen and trained at Le Cordon Bleu. KITA, the Japanese American steakhouse, is the serious room, with a sushi counter, raw bar and a sake list, while Après Pendry, the lobby lounge, does fireside seating, live music and shareable plates, and Dos Olas Cantina, which replaced the original pizza parlour, handles tacos and loud evenings. The Pool House, on the sixth floor, is Park City’s only rooftop pool and bar, a geometric pool and hot tub behind glass that stays open through the winter. Spa Pendry has six treatment rooms and a High Altitude Glow facial written for the dry mountain air, Compass Sports rents skis on site, and there are 8,000 square feet of meeting space, which tells you something about midweek occupancy. This is a social hotel, closer in spirit to Pendry’s city properties than to a quiet mountain lodge, and it is run that way, with a calendar of themed après parties, rooftop jazz on summer evenings, holiday programmes for children, and a plaza that the hotel treats as its own living room. Canyons Village itself is purpose-built and a little placeless, surrounded by other condo hotels, and anything with history means a shuttle into town. What Pendry does well is the logistics of a ski holiday, lift at the door, good sushi at night, an apartment big enough for three generations, and a rooftop swim in falling snow, all without getting in the car.You should not come if you want a small hotel, a historic building, silence after dark, or Main Street outside your window, and you should know that weddings, conferences and the Fourth of July festival in the village all pass through. You should come for a week of skiing on the largest lift-served mountain in the United States, with a family or a group who need kitchens and bunk rooms, and a bar that is busy enough to feel like a night out.The short version: A 153-room ski-in, ski-out resort and residence building at the Canyons Village base of Park City Mountain, opened in 2022 by Pendry, with a Japanese American steakhouse, the town’s only rooftop pool, and the Sunrise Gondola loading at its door.
