An 18th-century UNESCO-listed Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini on Piazza di San Marcello, the former cardinal's residence that became a bank before Six Senses transformed it into their first urban property. Patricia Urquiola's design connects the palazzo's restored Renaissance history with thoroughly contemporary interiors. The original facade and marble staircases remain, along with a glass floor near the Earth Lab revealing a subterranean Baptist pool from the neighboring San Marcello al Corso Church. The interiors run to Travertine marble, Cocciopesto plaster, and upcycled rope lining the spa walls, all in shades of beige that could furnish a SKIMS collection. Opened 2023, 4-minute walk from Piazza Venezia, sandwiched between Trevi Fountain and Pantheon but genuinely removed from the tourist crush. Rooms start at 28 sqm and climb to vast signature suites, all designed in minimalist beige/caramel/tan with organic Naturalmat mattresses and generous ceiling heights. Some suites include private terraces and walk-in closets (the latter unnecessary for short stays, standard rooms work fine). The courtyard provides indoor-outdoor flow with statement steel girders and vintage furniture creating what the hotel calls "platform nine-and-three-quarters quality". Extra’s are free minibar, blackout blinds, high-speed WiFi. The Roman Baths are the experience. Six Senses' modern interpretation of the caldarium-tepidarium-frigidarium thermotherapy circuit (16+ only) decorated with Daphne's laurel tree motifs in a space designed to feel simultaneously timeless and futuristic. One-hour sessions are included with room rates. Move between sauna, steam, and three temperatures of pools in what feels genuinely restorative when empty, less so when crowded. SPArkling nights Thursdays 7 to 11 pm with sound healing by live harpist, Roman-inspired finger food, and access for non-guests and locals who book ahead. Six Senses Spa offers the brand's signature tech-based wellness screening that measures biomarkers via foot sensors and breathing tests, then recommends treatments. BIVIUM restaurant blends marketplace interior with circular bar and terrace, serving Italian/international fusion with Chef Nadia's Sicilian influence on classics, like exceptional cacio e pepe, sea bass, octopus. NOTOS Rooftop delivers garden-in-the-sky dining with 360-degree panoramic views, Mediterranean/seafood/plant-based menus from Chef Fabio San Giovanni, and sunset timing that justifies the premium. Both restaurants follow "Eat With Six Senses" sustainable sourcing, using herbs from the rooftop garden. Rates don't include breakfast but do include Roman Baths access.
