Six Senses Ibiza faces Cala Xarraca, a bay at the northern tip of the island near Portinatx, a thirty-five-minute drive from the airport, on a twenty-acre, eight-hectare site that the hotel has folded into the contours of the coastline rather than built on top of it. It opened on 10 July 2021, conceived by the architect and developer Jonathan Leitersdorf, who has described the project as the first purpose-built five-star hotel Ibiza had seen in three decades. The resort counts 137 accommodations in total: 116 fully appointed suites, a further nineteen Residences and two Mansions, the latter running from three to ten bedrooms for guests who want a house rather than a room, plus a handful of cave suites built directly into the cliff face. Neil Jacobs, chief executive of Six Senses, oversees the group; on the ground, the hotel runs on the brand's usual model of a personal Guest Experience Maker assigned to each stay rather than a conventional concierge desk. The architecture leans on a Finca style, using locally sourced materials to work with the island's natural breeze, and the furniture, made by the Ibizan workshop Grupo Malasa, runs to European oak, red oak, iroko, teak, chestnut, walnut and rattan, alongside stainless and galvanized steel and laminated glass. Food comes from four organic restaurants led by the Israeli chef Eyal Shani, much of it grown on a four-hundred-year-old olive press and agricultural estate on the property known as The Farm, which supplies the kitchens directly. Beyond the plates, there is a recording studio, an open-air cinema and stage fitted with Sonus Faber sound technology, and, less expectedly, an outdoor boxing ring alongside the yoga deck and fitness centre. The Cave Royal suite, the most theatrical of the accommodations, has a grand piano and a hidden door that leads through to the recording studio. Staying here reads less like a beach holiday and more like enrolment in a programme, six pillars of it, in fact, running from sleep to spa to what the brand calls grow. That structure suits a guest who wants the day organised for them without feeling handled, and the north of the island does the rest of the work: pine forest and limestone cliff rather than the club terraces of the south, and a silence at Cala Xarraca that has little to do with Ibiza's reputation. The wellness framing can tip into earnestness; biohacking modules and mindfulness workshops sit alongside each other on the daily programme in a way that asks a lot of a guest who simply wants to swim and eat well, but the farm-to-table food and the genuine agricultural history behind it keep the whole enterprise from floating off into pure branding. You should not come if you want Ibiza Town's restaurant scene within walking distance, or if a full daily menu of workshops and biohacking sessions feels like homework rather than a holiday. You should come for a three- or four-generation residence with its own pool and garage, for a kitchen built around a working four-hundred-year-old farm rather than an imported concept, and for a stretch of the island's north coast that has nothing to do with the club calendar further south.
