At Hotel Torralbenc's restaurant terrace, olive trees and the estate's own vineyards run toward a sea that shows only as a line past the branches, and much of what lands on the table, vegetables, eggs, oil, wine, was grown or made on the same 74-hectare property outside Alaior. The buildings date from the 19th and 20th centuries and were restored into a 22-room hotel spread across two low floors, still reading as a working Menorcan finca rather than a resort, with whitewashed walls and gardens scented with lavender and rosemary. What separates it from other upscale addresses on the island is the winery: 14 hectares of vines on the grounds have produced Torralbenc wine since 2016, work recognized as Best Wine Tourism Hotel at the International Wine Challenge Merchant Awards Spain, and served through a kitchen advised by Michelin-starred chef Gorka Txapartegi. Days here settle around the outdoor pool, a spa and massage room open even to non-guests, a picnic area, and free bicycles for riding out toward the Camí de Cavalls, the historic trail that circles Menorca. Alaior's center sits five kilometers off, with Cala Macarelleta and Cala Agulla among the beaches nearby, so this suits travelers happy to spend an evening at the table over house wine rather than chasing sand, and less so anyone wanting a beachfront room or a livelier hotel, given the estate's 22 rooms. Dining under chef Gorka Txapartegi's guidance
The hotel restaurant is advised by Michelin-starred chef Gorka Txapartegi, offering an honest, refined take on Mediterranean cuisine rooted in Minorcan tradition. Dishes draw on vegetables, eggs, oil and wine produced on the estate, cooked slowly over embers, and served in a warm dining room or on a terrace overlooking olive groves, vineyards and the sea.
An estate winery producing its own vintages
After more than a decade of research and respect for the land, the estate produced its first Torralbenc wine vintage in 2016. The wines are made in the property's own winery amid 14 hectares of vineyard, a project recognised as Best Wine Tourism Hotel at the International Wine Challenge Merchant Awards Spain.
