Sonviscos Valldemossa sits inside a former country house at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, close enough to the Real Cartuja de Valldemossa and the Casa Natal de Santa Catalina Thomàs that the walk into town replaces a taxi. The whole property is five rooms across three floors, reached by stairs rather than a lift, and that scale is the point: this is closer to staying in someone's converted house than checking into a hotel. Mediterranean gardens and a terrace wrap the building, and a sun deck and picnic area give the outdoor space actual use rather than decoration. Rooms carry air conditioning, heating, blackout blinds, a desk and a private bathroom with shower, and the largest doubles open onto private terraces with mountain views. Breakfast can be taken in the room or downstairs, there's a bar and a snack bar, and packed lunches are available for guests heading out to hike. A massage room, luggage storage, a safe-deposit box and an area shuttle cover the rest, and staff move between English, French and Spanish without needing a translator. Free parking and free Wi-Fi come as standard. Families with children twelve and under are not accepted here, and pets aren't allowed either, so this suits couples and small groups more than a multi-generation trip. What there is instead of a resort is a five-room house at the edge of Valldemossa's old town, gardens included, at a scale the larger hotels nearby cannot manage to shrink down to.
