THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Castello di Tassara
In the kitchen at Castello di Tassara, an old vaulted brick oven that once baked bread for the whole village now turns out pizza for guests, some evenings by the fireplace, before breakfast moves to the garden when the weather allows. The castle sits alone on a hillside in Val Tidone, roughly an hour by car from Milan's Linate airport and ninety minutes from Malpensa, with vineyards and fields running down toward the Po plain and, on clear days, the Alps visible on the horizon. Seven rooms and suites are spread across the stone building's two upper floors, each different: Cristina's exposed beams and three-window view, the tower suite La Torretta with a mezzanine that suits families, Suite Augusta with its own kitchen and sitting room. There is no elevator, so travelers who need step-free access should look elsewhere, and anyone chasing city nightlife will find only the hills, a chapel, a horse paddock, and a biologically farmed vegetable garden shared with the resident cats and dogs. What sets this place apart is that oven, and the fact that weddings here can spill into a converted hayloft with a seven-metre ceiling seating up to eighty, as part of a property that hosts weddings for up to a hundred guests. Golfers have two courses within half an hour, cyclists can take one of four e-bikes into the Via Francigena countryside, and the seasonal pool runs May to September. Come here to disappear into a working countryside estate, not to sightsee. Come for a wedding, a long weekend with a horse paddock as scenery, or a week deciding only which hill to climb before dinner. Castello di Tassara is a seven-room stone castle in the Val Tidone hills, an hour from Milan, with a centuries-old oven still baking pizza. No elevator, just vineyards, a horse paddock, and a hayloft built for weddings. Suits a countryside wedding, not a city break.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Inside the castle's large kitchen, complete with fireplace and wood stove, stands an ancient vaulted brick oven that once served the whole village. Still in use today for baking pizzas and other dishes, it links the property's breakfast service directly to a centuries-old communal tradition of the Tassara countryside.
