THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Langham Sydney
Three floors and ninety-six rooms sit a kilometre from central Sydney, closer to the SH Ervin Gallery and the Sydney Observatory than to the harbour towers most luxury hotels chase. The Langham keeps its scale deliberately small, and the payoff shows in the guestrooms: the largest standard rooms in the city, styled in the European tradition the Sydney property traces to the original grand hotel in London, with mini-bars, bathrobes and slippers instead of the compressed footprints newer builds settle for. Anyone here for work has a business centre, meeting rooms and multilingual staff covering Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian and more, useful when a call runs long or a deal needs more than English. Those who came to switch off have a sauna, steam room, massage room, a swimming pool and a separate indoor pool, plus a library for quiet reading, a touch many hotels skip. Pets travel too, for a fee, and a playroom keeps children from turning the lobby into a waiting room. None of this comes free of friction: parking runs 88 AUD a day, a 100 AUD deposit is taken at check-in, and breakfast is not automatically included, so the traveller counting every dollar might do better elsewhere. This suits someone who wants a hotel that behaves like a small, well-run house rather than a landmark to be photographed, who would rather have room to spread out than a view to caption. It will not suit someone looking for the cheapest bed in the CBD or a hotel large enough to disappear into. What lingers after checkout is the space itself, the one plain luxury no other Sydney hotel can claim. Three floors, ninety-six rooms and the largest standard guestrooms in Sydney, a kilometre from the SH Ervin Gallery and the Observatory. Work travellers get a business centre and multilingual staff, and those switching off get a sauna, steam room and two pools, though parking and the deposit cost extra.

The hotel's restaurant serves local Sydney-inspired cuisine alongside a buffet breakfast, while an adjoining bar offers a relaxed spot to unwind after a day exploring the harbour city. Coffee, tea and kettle facilities are also available in-room, rounding out a dining experience built around comfort as much as flavour.
