THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Chalet Saint-Georges
At the end of Megève's pedestrian street, footsteps from the ski lifts, the shutters of a century-old chalet have opened again. Hôtel Saint-Georges keeps its walls scarred by old winters and its curtains heavy enough to hold a story, but the interiors, redone by designer Luke Edward Hall, read less like an alpine hotel and more like an English country drawing room that wandered into the Savoie, with painted murals of alpine myths where most Megève chalets stick to wood and stone. That mix is what nothing else in town quite has. The 29 rooms and suites keep check-in from 4pm and checkout by noon, staff switch between English, French and Spanish, and a few rooms take a folding sofa for extra guests. Downstairs, Le Trappeur serves French bistro classics under wood-warmed walls at lunch and dinner, and the Piano Bar turns from afternoon tea to fireside cocktails and chess as the night settles in. The spa runs on contrast therapy, a Japanese sauna against cold plunges and a jacuzzi, plus a gym built for cardio, weights and a boxing bag, open daily from seven to nine. Skis go into dedicated storage, hiking and cycling routes start outside the door, and there is a tennis court for anyone who wants August as much as January. Families get babysitting and a children's breakfast rate, and dogs are welcome for a fee. It suits travellers who want a design story with their skiing and don't mind a short walk from the lifts. It is not the address for anyone chasing slopeside anonymity or minimalist glass and concrete. Come for the murals, stay for the sauna, leave smelling faintly of wood smoke.\n\nAt the end of Megève's pedestrian street, Hôtel Saint-Georges trades typical alpine luxury for murals, thick curtains and storytelling interiors by Luke Edward Hall, with a wood-fired bistro and a contrast-therapy spa. Good for design-curious travellers who want the unusual, less so for anyone chasing ski-in minimalism.

A fully equipped gym with cardio machines, a weight area and a punch bag is on site.
On-site ski storage is provided for winter sports guests.
Restaurant Le Trappeur serves traditional French bistro cuisine for lunch and dinner.
