THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort
Ten kilometres outside Chiang Saen, on two low floors set into the grounds, Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort earns its name honestly: elephants share the property, not just the marketing photos. It is a small resort by five-star standards, sixty-one rooms in total, which keeps the library, the picnic area and the barbecue spot from ever feeling used up. Days settle into a rhythm between an outdoor pool and an indoor one, a spa with sauna and steam room, and a fitness centre and yoga space for guests who came to move rather than recline. A chapel and a gift shop sit near the bar and restaurant, and the tour desk will arrange an excursion while the concierge sorts out transfers, so very little needs planning once you arrive. Rooms carry DVD players, minibars, bathrobes and slippers, small comforts that add up, and staff move easily between English and French, useful for guests who would rather not repeat themselves. A conference hall and meeting facilities mean a work trip can happen here without the resort feeling like an office. It is not built for spontaneity: pets are not allowed, only registered guests reach the rooms, and anyone bringing a drone should register it with Thai authorities first, since the penalties are real. Check-in runs from 3pm, check-out by noon. This suits travellers who want structure and quiet over nightlife, and who are happy to be ten kilometres from the nearest town rather than in the middle of it. Anyone hoping for a lively strip after dinner should look elsewhere. Elephants next door, a real spa, and just sixty-one rooms outside Chiang Saen. It rewards travellers who want quiet structure, not those chasing nightlife or bringing pets.

The resort's restaurant serves a buffet-style breakfast along with a la carte options, and a separate bar offers drinks throughout the day. Coffee and tea are available for guests, and breakfast can also be taken in the room, giving flexibility for how and where meals are enjoyed during a stay.
