THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Standard Hua Hin
By mid-morning at The Standard Hua Hin, the garden paths are already busy: guests carry coffee from the on-site café down toward the pool, past a restored building once part of old Hua Hin's fabric and now home to Praça, the beachfront restaurant serving Thai food and craft cocktails. This Hyatt-run hotel sits where a stretch of Thai coastline turned into a royal retreat after the Bangkok railroad opened in the 1920s, and the hotel still trades on that seaside pull, its garden running straight to the Gulf of Thailand. Condé Nast Traveler named it the only hotel in Thailand on its 2022 Hot List, and it has since picked up a One Key rating in the Michelin Guide Thailand, a pairing no other resort on this stretch of coast can match. Lido covers all-day dining, the café handles fresh-pressed juice and coffee, and the spa runs a full program with sauna, steam room and massage alongside a gym and table tennis for anyone who wants to move. Evenings can go louder too, with a nightclub and karaoke room on site. Families get a kids' club, playroom and highchairs, and pet owners can bring a dog for a fee. Notably, the hotel operates as an international property and does not take bookings from Thai passport holders, a detail worth knowing before booking on behalf of local friends or colleagues. This suits travelers who want a design hotel with a working beach, a spa, and some nightlife rather than hush; it will not suit anyone hoping for a small, quiet boutique, since the grounds stretch across pools, gardens and several restaurants. Check-in runs from 3pm, check-out by noon. The Standard Hua Hin sets a restored heritage dining room and a beachfront garden pool around Hyatt service, the only Thai hotel on Condé Nast Traveler's 2022 Hot List. It suits travelers who want design and nightlife by the beach, not those after a small, quiet retreat.

The resort sits within a lush garden dreamscape of native flora, just steps from the Gulf of Thailand's shoreline, in a beach town that has drawn visitors since the railroad from Bangkok arrived over a century ago. This tropical, green setting frames the property's rooms, suites and villas throughout the grounds.
