THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Palazzo Ripetta
Via di Ripetta runs quiet even by Roman standards, and Palazzo Ripetta sits behind a door that once led into a convent Pope Innocent XI founded in 1672, where women were taught sewing and tailoring by the Sisters of Santa Dorotea. Three and a half centuries on, the address still trades on that hush: 78 rooms rise through four floors behind Luigi Moretti's curvaceous corridors lined with satin black doors, their tall windows looking onto a secret garden or a quiet side street rather than the crowds working toward Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps a few minutes' walk away. What separates it from the neighbourhood's grander competitors is the deconsecrated church built in 1728, now one of five naturally lit event spaces on site, turning a routine conference booking into something closer to theatre. Evenings run through Baylon Cocktail Bar for Negronis, rooftop Etere for its Mediterranean view, or the garden restaurant Piazzetta Ripetta, while children can be handed to babysitting so parents take the gym, sauna or library instead. None of this comes cheap on the side: breakfast adds 34 euros per adult, parking runs 45 euros a day, and a 100 euro nightly deposit is collected by bank transfer at check-in, so this suits travellers who have already decided that Rome's centro storico is worth paying for outright, not those working to a strict budget. Families travelling with pets can bring them along for a flat 250 euro fee. It is a small hotel with a long memory, built for people who would rather sleep inside a story than inside something merely new. A 1672 convent reborn as a 78-room hideaway on Via di Ripetta, minutes from Piazza del Popolo, with its own deconsecrated church now doubling as an event space. Expect a secret garden, a rooftop bar and evening Negronis, but no bargains: breakfast, parking and pets all cost extra.

Palazzo Ripetta occupies a building founded in 1672 by Pope Innocent XI as a conservatory for young women, later expanded with a church designed by Gerolamo Theodoli. The property was reshaped in the 1960s by modernist architect Luigi Moretti and became Via Ripetta's first five-star hotel after a 2022 renovation by designer Fausta Gaetani.
