THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Domaine de Verchant
Vines run right up to the door at Domaine de Verchant, seventeen hectares of working vineyard wrapped around a former mansion five kilometres northeast of Montpellier in Castelnau-le-Lez. The Relais & Chateaux address holds just 26 rooms, each one facing the garden, so the pace here is set by the grounds rather than a lobby full of check-ins. Rooms run from a 30 square metre Deluxe Double to the 90 square metre Small Home and Privilege Suite with its own terrace, with bathtubs, bathrobes and air conditioning throughout and a private jacuzzi in the Prestige Suite. Where a standard spa hotel offers a menu and a masseuse, Verchant has built six named RESET programmes, Reboost Detox, Restart Beauty, Recharge Sleep, Revive Body, Reswing Golf and Refine Tennis, pairing treatments with micronutrition and movement rather than a single afternoon in a robe. Spa access itself costs 20 euros per person, waived for anyone in a Junior Suite or booked into a treatment, worth knowing before arrival. The heated pool, sauna, steam room, gym and tennis court mean a stay can run entirely on the grounds, though Montpellier's Comedy Square and Fabre Museum sit close by, and the Corum Convention Center is about ten minutes away by car. Families get a playground and babysitting, pets are allowed, and staff work in English, French, Spanish and Turkish. This suits a couple wanting to disappear more than a group chasing bars and late nights; twenty-six rooms among vines does not lend itself to a crowd. Check-in runs from 4pm, check-out at noon, and the credit card used to book has to be shown at the desk. A 26-room Relais & Chateaux estate on seventeen hectares of vineyard outside Montpellier, built around six named RESET wellness programmes instead of a generic spa. Suits a couple after quiet over nightlife; spa access costs 20 euros extra unless staying in the Junior Suite or booked for treatment.

The hotel occupies a former mansion on a 17-hectare vineyard estate near Montpellier, its historic architecture reworked with high-tech facilities and contemporary interiors, so guests staying here experience a layered contrast between the building's heritage character and its modern spa and hospitality additions.
While all ages are welcome, extra beds for guests aged three and older incur a €90 nightly fee.
