THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Gar Anat Hotel Boutique
The building on Placeta de los Peregrinos has been sheltering travelers since the Order of Santiago ran a pilgrim's hospital here in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, on the site of an even older Moorish house with pools beneath the current building. That lineage gives Gar Anat Hotel Boutique its name: Gar-Anat, an old term for Granada, means pilgrim's colony. After the building sat empty for 25 years, it reopened in 2010, restored without erasing that history. Wood-beamed ceilings, original furniture, and items placed like stage clues fill 15 individually decorated rooms across three floors, connected by a lift. On the corner of Calle San Matías and El Escudo del Carmen, in the Realejo district, the Cathedral is two minutes away and the Alhambra a 1.1-kilometer walk, close enough to cross Corral del Carbón or Isabel la Católica Plaza on foot instead of calling a taxi. In the library, tea and infusions run from 4:30 to 10:30 in the evening beside a courtyard fountain, and the small shop sells wine, aromatherapy, and beauty products, a detail a chain of this size rarely bothers with. Rooms carry a double or king bed, minibar, safe, and a private balcony or terrace, breakfast is a buffet, dinner comes from a set menu, and staff switch between English, Spanish, and French without missing a step. Parking costs 22 euros a day. None of this suits anyone chasing glass-lobby uniformity or a pool deck; it suits someone who wants to sleep inside a building with an actual biography, not a themed one. Once a pilgrim's hospital run by the Order of Santiago, Gar Anat holds 15 individually decorated rooms two minutes from Granada's Cathedral and a short walk to the Alhambra. It suits travelers who want history over a lobby plaque.
