THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Helenekilde Bade
At eight in the morning, Restaurant Kilden's terrace already looks straight across the Kattegat toward Hesselø, and the sauna next door has fogged its panoramic window with early swimmers who walked the two minutes from Tisvildeleje Beach in bathrobes. Helenekilde Badehotel is a 27-room design hotel spread across two floors with no elevator, so a top-floor sea-view room means carrying your own bags up the stairs, fine if you travel light, less so if you don't. What separates it from the other beach hotels along this stretch of coast is that sauna: open daily from eight until eight, free to guests, no booking needed, with a view over the water that most hotels would charge extra for. Rooms have private balconies, private bathrooms with showers, and designer toiletries with hairdryers. The restaurant cooks Danish food built on local ingredients and pours Kolpin Family Wines, a house label named after the founder's three children, at the daily Wine O'Clock. Outside, Troldeskoven forest is a ten-minute walk, bikes are available for longer coastal routes, and there's a picnic area for anyone who'd rather eat on the dunes than at a table. Guests can also book a court at Tisvilde Tennis & Padel Klub, 1.5 kilometres off, equipment included. The garden and terrace hold the last light before dinner. This suits someone after a quiet, design-led coastal stay who doesn't need a lift or a hotel spa; it will frustrate anyone wanting brand-name polish or step-free access. Pets are welcome for a 750 DKK deposit. What stays with you is that sauna window and the tide pulling back beneath it. A 27-room design hotel two minutes from Tisvildeleje Beach, built around a free guest sauna with a panoramic window over Hesselø. Restaurant Kilden pours the family's own Kolpin wines alongside daily Danish cooking. No elevator, so light packers do best; anyone chasing polished luxury should look elsewhere.
