Thirty minutes from central Athens and closer still to the airport, on a gated stretch of the Athenian Riviera at 58 Leoforos Poseidonos in Glyfada, One&Only Aesthesis occupies the site of the old Asteras Glyfadas beach complex, built in the mid 1950s and for two decades the reference point for Athenian summer, a beach club and bungalow colony where actors, shipping families and the local jet set spent their Augusts before the site fell quiet in the 1980s. Inside, the mid-century references are explicit, not implied: native stone walls, pale olive wood, woven leather furniture, a palette of sand and Aegean blue that nods to the site's 1960s photographs without copying them. Ora, the resort's signature restaurant, is run by Ettore Botrini, the Michelin-starred Greek-Italian chef known for his tasting menus at Botrini's in Corfu, serving a modern reading of Greek coastal cooking; a second all-day restaurant serves the Manko Beach Club, where cabanas, day beds and a DJ set take over from early afternoon. Guerlain operates the spa, there is a private yacht for excursions to the islands, and the KidsOnly club runs nature programming out of a tree house and an amphitheater. What it feels like is Athens doing its version of the Riviera: a resort built for people who want proximity to the Acropolis and the airport without giving up a private pool and a beach club scene, closer in spirit to a summer address than a countryside retreat. It suits couples and families who want a base for a few days of Athens sightseeing bookended by beach time, and it suits the Athenian crowd itself, for whom Glyfada's beachfront carries real memory instead of borrowed nostalgia. The property leans into being seen, the pool and beach club are staged for it, and staff move with the practiced ease of a hotel used to photographers, though the design itself does not need to perform. You should not come if you want the isolation of a private island in the Cyclades, or if a beach club with a DJ and a see-and-be-seen crowd through August sounds more like work than rest; this is a hotel that photographs well and is aware of it. You should come for a resort that treats Athens itself as part of the holiday, that puts a private pool and Ettore Botrini's cooking within thirty minutes of the Acropolis, and that has revived a stretch of coastline three generations of Athenians already knew.
