Domes of Corfu stands on a hillside above Paralia Glifadas, the blue flag beach on the island's west coast, roughly nine miles from Corfu Town and its Venetian old quarter. The resort opened in the summer of 2021, the second Corfu property from Domes Resorts, the Greek hospitality group that also runs Domes Miramare on the island's eastern shore. Makridis Associates Architecture, the Athens firm behind the build, worked in arches, arcades and terraced patios rather than the glass boxes that define so much of the island's newer building, with a material palette of local stone and ceramic tile pulling the eye toward Corfiot vernacular instead of away from it. There are 236 rooms and suites across the property, more than half of them suites, terraced down the slope so that a majority face the water. Domes Resorts, which has built its reputation on reviving and reinterpreting older Ionian properties, runs Domes of Corfu as a newer, purpose-built counterpart to that project. Inside, the rooms lean bohemian rather than minimalist, worked in warm earth tones with wood, stone and metal doing most of the material work, and the open-plan suites, some with private plunge pools, read more relaxed than formal. The food programme spreads across several kitchens rather than one signature restaurant: Agora runs the buffet with a Mediterranean bent, Tavernaki concentrates on Greek seafood, Fresca Trattoria covers Italian, Frourio leans into the Venetian influence on Corfiot cuisine with a proper fine dining register, and Topos handles beachfront fish in the casual mode of an island taverna, with NKALERI running the evening lounge bar. Soma Spa and an adjoining gym pavilion cover the wellness side, there's an adults-only pool for anyone travelling without children, and on the other end of things, Kiepos Creche takes infants from eight months while the Kids Club and an arcade room absorb the older ones. What it actually delivers is a family resort that hasn't compromised on design to get there, which is rarer on this coast than the marketing of most competitors would suggest. The scale shows in the numbers, five restaurants and a full spa alongside two kids' programmes, but it doesn't feel corporate on the ground, partly because the terracing breaks the property into smaller pockets rather than one long block. It suits a family that wants a proper design hotel without pretending the children aren't there, and a couple who don't mind sharing a beach and a breakfast room with several dozen other families in July. You should not come if you want the hushed, adults-only glamour of somewhere like Domes Miramare, or if a resort with two kids' clubs and an arcade room sounds like the opposite of a holiday. You should come for a week that manages design-forward Corfiot architecture, a genuinely good spread of restaurants, and a beach club atmosphere that works equally well with children in tow or left at the kids' club for the afternoon.
