You wind up Stone Canyon Road through residential streets, past gates and hedges, until suddenly you're pulling into what feels less like a hotel and more like a particularly glamorous friend's estate that happens to occupy 12 acres of some of LA's most valuable real estate. The setting is genuinely extraordinary. Stone bridges arch over a swan-filled pond, bougainvillea cascades down Mission-style architecture, and ancient trees create the kind of dappled shade that makes you forget you're in a city at all. This is old Hollywood romance without the kitsch, the kind of place where Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe both stayed, and somehow you can still feel that golden-age elegance. Rooms and suites are scattered across the property in low-slung buildings that follow the canyon's natural contours. Some open directly onto garden terraces, others have fireplaces and private patios. The recent renovation kept the Spanish Colonial bones while adding proper luxury, which means excellent beds, beautiful bathrooms, and that Dorchester level of service that's attentive without ever feeling intrusive.
