Its lobby sits under a glass ceiling, and behind the bar stands a statue of Minerva carved by Rinaldo Rinaldi, a pupil of Canova, watching over anyone who stops for a drink. Architect Hugo Toro reworked the ninety-three rooms across six floors, layering Art Deco lines onto Roman columns and architecture that predate the hotel by centuries. Every room comes with a bathrobe, minibar and soundproofing. The restaurant sits seven stories above the square, with panoramic views few Roman rooftops can match. The spa draws on Ottoman hammam ritual and follows a route from Constantinople to Venice, borrowed straight from the Orient Express's own history, a detail no neighbouring hotel can claim.
