THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Amadria Park Hotel Capital
Morning coffee at Amadria Park Hotel Capital comes with a view of Zagreb's rooftops, the twin spires of the cathedral visible six minutes on foot and Ban Jelačić Square four minutes closer than that. The 2018 renovation kept the early twentieth century art deco bones (the cafe, restaurant and bar in the lobby show it clearest) while updating the 109 rooms with air conditioning, minibars and the kind of quiet design touches that earned the property its design hotel classification. Business travellers use the conference hall and meeting rooms by day, and the bar in the evening; leisure guests skip both and head straight for the Archaeological Museum or the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, both a short walk from the door. English and German are spoken at the desk, the fitness room opens for early risers, and continental breakfast runs from 6:30 to 11am for those willing to pay for it separately. What sets it apart from Zagreb's other central business hotels is easy to miss: a doctor on call, part of a first aid provision most hotels this size do not bother listing. It suits someone who wants a serious hotel in a serious location, with meeting rooms and airport transfers handled without fuss. It will not suit anyone chasing a resort pool or a garden; parking is chargeable at 20 euros a day and there are no grounds to speak of, just the city outside the door. For a stopover between meetings or a weekend built around museums and cathedral views, the location and the doctor on call are the two details worth remembering. In central Zagreb, minutes from the cathedral and Ban Jelačić Square, this art deco building became a 109-room design hotel after a 2018 renovation. It suits business trips and museum weekends more than poolside lounging, and keeps a doctor on call, a rarity nearby.
