In the mornings at Maison Salix, guests are told to take their coffee by the window and watch Vallabrègues wake up below; the guesthouse sits in the centre of this small Provençal town. The building has stood for more than six centuries, and after a full renovation in 2023 it still keeps its stone walls, timber beams and one staircase dating to the fourteenth century, now leading up to the largest suite. Only six suites are on offer across two floors, and each is different: the Signature and Héritage suites stretch past 130 square metres with two bedrooms and two bathrooms apiece, room enough for a family or two couples to share without tripping over each other, while the Boudoir, tucked into the eighteenth-century wing, stays smaller and quieter with its own fireplace and dressing room. One suite goes further than the rest: the Pool Lodge has its own entrance, its own garden and its own pool, a house within the house for anyone who wants no reason at all to leave it. Downstairs there is a library, a fireplace lounge, a help-yourself bar and a garden pool for everyone else, plus a small gym and a massage room. A restaurant operates on site, and parking is free for those arriving by car. This suits people travelling as a pair or a group who value space and privacy over hotel service, less so anyone who wants the routines of a large full-service hotel. Vallabrègues sits at an equal distance from Avignon, Arles, Nîmes and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, and Maison Salix seems content to keep to its own quiet corner of it. Six suites inside a six-century Provençal house in Vallabrègues, renovated in 2023 without losing its stone and beams. One, the Pool Lodge, has its own entrance, garden and pool. Better suited to a group or a family who want room to spread out than to anyone chasing full hotel service.
