THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hôtel Le Coucou
At 1,600 metres in Méribel's Belvédère quarter, Hôtel Le Coucou sits right at the Rond-Point des pistes, close enough that guests can walk out of the ski room and glide onto the slopes without a second stop. That ski room is the detail rivals don't bother with: a boutique lounge with its own fitting area and coffee corner, where a dedicated team resets each guest's kit daily and stores skis, jackets and helmets from one season to the next, so nothing needs to be dragged home in April only to be hauled back in December. The 55 rooms and suites, designed by Pierre Yovanovitch, are warm and cosy, and most open onto a private terrace facing the mountains, while two chalets linked to the main building by an interior passage give families or groups a version of privacy that a single wing can't. Downstairs, the choice runs from Beefbar's meat and panoramic terrace to Biancaneve's wood-fired Italian plates to Le Fumoir's fondue and raclette, plus a bar that turns from lunch stop to piano bar after dark. The spa, built around Tata Harper's organic treatments across six rooms, one of them a double, sits alongside a sauna, steam room, seasonal outdoor pool and fitness area. A playroom and babysitting cover younger children, though under-18s can't stay without an adult. Couples chasing quiet won't find it at a hotel built for the après-ski crowd, and dog owners should note the 35 euro pet fee applies per stay. For skiers who want the mountain to start at the door and end at a treatment table, this is the address. It closes outside the winter season, so timing the visit matters. At 1,600 metres on Méribel's slopes, Le Coucou's ski room resets kit daily and stores it season to season, so the mountain starts at the door. Fifty-five rooms, three restaurants and a Tata Harper spa fill the rest of the stay, though it shuts outside winter.
