The Comodo occupies a former clinic building in Gasteinertal, seven kilometres from central Bad Gastein, near the Graukogel ski lift and the town's historic vapor bath. Renovated in 2022 and opened in 2023, it channels the 1960s and 70s throughout: terrazzo floors, oak and pine surfaces, and rooms dressed in wine and bottle-green rather than the pine-panelled chalet look common in the valley. All 70 rooms carry heated floors, Smart TVs and laptop-friendly safes, with separate sitting areas and daily housekeeping throughout. What distinguishes it from other design hotels is the spa, where treatments pair Saint Charles products with Gastein's own thermal water, a resource tied to the valley's long wellness history. Skiers get ski storage on site and a shuttle stopping 500 metres away for the Ski Amadé network, 760 kilometres of slopes reachable from a single pass. For those mixing work with the mountains, a co-working library seats 20, a private dining room holds 30, and a 21-seat cinema handles presentations, alongside a conference hall for larger groups. Breakfast runs 7:30 to 11:00 and the restaurant follows a farm-to-table approach. Pets are welcome for a flat 25 euro fee, and electric cars can charge on site. The Signature Suites overlook the old Kaiser Wilhelm Promenade and the Garden Suites include a record player and freestanding bathtub; only two of each exist. This suits travellers who want design considered down to the terrazzo and a spa with a genuine local reason to exist, less so anyone who wants slopes right outside the door, since the lifts are a shuttle ride away. It is a small hotel that behaves like it knows exactly what it is.
