THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Cobblers Cove
Cobblers Cove's Great House was built in the 1940s on the site of an old Quaker battery station, its frame raised in steel salvaged from Barbados's old island railway and its walls faced in coral stone. The family that has owned it since 1968, now led by Hugh and Sam Godsal, renamed the pink, frosting-trimmed building after the frigate birds that still gather in the bay; today it belongs to the Relais & Chateaux group, run by general manager Joanna Roterberg. Forty suites, spread across two floors among dense, species-rich gardens, sit steps from a soft strip of beach on the calm west coast at Speightstown, within walking distance of the town centre and a short stretch from Mullins and Gibbs beaches. Guests eat at the single restaurant, where chef Andrew Jean cooks island-inspired menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, dress elegant in the evening or casual on the terrace, and drink Cobblers Coolers at the bar until eleven, with live entertainment most nights. A tiled pool, a spa, a gym and a reef just offshore for snorkelling, sailing and windsurfing round out the days. What Cobblers Cove has that most beach resorts of its size don't is continuity: staff who, on a return visit, greet guests by name and remember their favourite suite, their usual table, how they take their coffee, a habit built over nearly sixty years under one family. That suits travelers who want a house that knows them, not a hotel that processes them; anyone chasing several restaurants or total anonymity should book elsewhere. At Cobblers Cove, you don't check in twice as a stranger.\n\nBuilt with steel from Barbados's old island railway and named for the frigate birds in its bay, Cobblers Cove has stayed under one family since 1968. Forty suites, one restaurant, a reef for snorkelling, and staff who remember your usual table.

The resort's restaurant sits in a beautiful seafront setting and is known for island-inspired cuisine built on fresh local ingredients, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily to guests and locals alike. Afternoon tea is served every day at four, and the evening dress code turns elegant, with a more relaxed terrace option for casual diners.
The hotel's accessibility extends to wireless internet in public areas and facilities for differently-abled guests.
Cool off in air-conditioned rooms equipped with fans. Select rooms also feature balconies or private terraces offering sweeping sea views.
Get your adrenaline pumping with outdoor activities like cycling, tennis, archery, horse riding, and water sports.
