THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
COMO The Treasury
On the corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street, where Perth's Old Treasury Buildings once housed public offices across Victorian Georgian, Victorian Second Empire and Federation Free Classical styles, COMO The Treasury now fills the same walls with travertine stone tiles, oversized windows and handcrafted furnishings, restored by Kerry Hill Architects rather than replaced. The result reads as a hotel, not a museum piece: 48 rooms and suites, an indoor heated pool and steam room beneath COMO Shambhala's four treatment rooms, and a TechnoGym fitness floor, all inside a heritage building that also holds EarthCheck sustainability certification. Few hotels in Perth's CBD pair a lap pool and full spa with walls this old, and that combination, heritage architecture with a genuine indoor wellness circuit, is what sets it apart from the city's newer towers. Upstairs, Wildflower serves a menu built around the region's six seasons with the Swan River in view; downstairs, Post keeps to modern Italian plates, and the Cape Arid Rooms hold afternoon tea beneath paintings by Philippa and Alex Nikulinsky. Stirling Gardens and the Old Court House Law Museum are close enough to walk to before breakfast. This suits a traveller who wants a city-centre address with real history, who reads restoration credits, and who will use the business centre or the library as readily as the spa. It suits less anyone travelling with a dog, or a family expecting a kids' club: pets aren't permitted, and an extra bed runs 195 AUD a night. What lingers afterward is the building itself, a former treasury quietly repurposed for people who no longer need convincing that old things can be reimagined properly. COMO The Treasury occupies Perth's restored 19th-century State Buildings, pairing an indoor heated pool and COMO Shambhala spa with 48 rooms designed by Kerry Hill. It suits travellers who want heritage architecture and quiet luxury, not families needing a kids' club or guests travelling with pets.

The hotel's COMO Shambhala wellness retreat pairs four treatment rooms and a steam room with a heated indoor pool and a TechnoGym-equipped fitness centre. Guests can move between massage, sauna and swimming within the historic State Buildings, making holistic wellness a defining part of a stay in Perth's revitalised historic heart.
