THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Die HochköNigin-Magic Mountain Resort
In Maria Alm, where the mountains of the Steinernes Meer rise beyond the garden, Die HochköNigin-Magic Mountain Resort sits with its terrace facing the peaks, close enough that morning light off the rock reaches the breakfast buffet before the coffee does. The Hörl family runs it, and that shows in details a chain would skip: a library instead of a second bar, an indoor fireplace built into the rooms rather than left to the lobby alone. What sets it apart from other alpine wellness hotels is the split spa system, a family spa and QUEEN SPA for the kids-club crowd, and a separate TIARA SPA reserved for adults only, so a couple travelling without children gets quiet water rather than a corner roped off from the play area. Golfers play the course on site and walk straight to one of the indoor pools afterward, skiers buy passes and store gear on property, and hikers step directly onto the Steinernes Meer trails from the terrace. Children get their own playground and kids club, babysitting can be arranged, and two meeting rooms cover the business case. None of this suits anyone chasing a city skyline or a late-night bar scene, and the room categories vary sharply in what they promise, with the Premium King Suite listing 128 square metres and premium king bedding while the Standard King Suite, Comfort Studio and Comfort Double Room give no size at all, so anyone drawn to space should ask before booking. What lingers is less the spa list than the fact that a family still runs the place they opened, in a valley that has not been dressed up for the view. A family-run hotel in Maria Alm at the foot of the Steinernes Meer, with a golf course, two indoor pools and a TIARA SPA reserved for adults only. Skiers get on-site passes, hikers step onto the trails, and only the Premium King Suite states its size, at 128 square metres.

The hotel's Summer-Autumn programme lists golfing as one of its outdoor activities, and the property itself includes a golf course among its sports amenities. It gives guests based in Maria Alm the chance to play a round without travelling elsewhere, fitting alongside hiking and biking as part of the resort's warm-season offering.
