THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel
Built like a castle at the base of Rundle Mountain, inside Banff National Park itself, the Fairmont Banff Springs has been hosting guests for more than 125 years, and it still runs on the same idea: one address, two seasons. Summer brings a championship golf course, winter turns the same grounds into a ski base with its own school, storage and passes, a rare combination for a resort this size that other properties in the Rockies rarely pull off without one season feeling secondary. There are 764 rooms across nine floors, so this is not a small operation, and it suits people who want the full run of a resort: an indoor and an outdoor pool, tennis, horse riding, a spa with sauna and steam room, a kids club and playroom for the ones who tag along, and a business center that can hold a conference the same week a wedding party checks in next door. It will not suit anyone hoping for a quiet, boutique-scale stay or a room within walking distance of downtown, the hotel sits two kilometers from central Banff, with a shuttle to cover that stretch. Pets travel for a nightly fee, parking is charged per day, and the property holds Green Key Global Eco-Rating certification, a more specific credential than the usual sustainability label. Staff speak English and Turkish among other languages, and wheelchair-accessible rooms are available. Check-in runs from 4pm, check-out by 11am. Whichever season you land in, the mountains framing the windows do not move, only what you can do in them does. A castle at the foot of Rundle Mountain, inside Banff National Park, built to run all year: golf in summer, skiing in winter, plus pools, a spa and 764 rooms. It suits groups and long weekends more than quiet, boutique escapes.

The resort's Willow Stream Spa features a mineral pool alongside massage, sauna and steam room treatments, offering a restorative counterpoint to a day of hiking, skiing or golf. Set within the historic property, the spa lets guests soak while taking in views of the surrounding Banff National Park scenery.
