THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Dorian, Autograph Collection
Sunday morning at The Dorian starts on the 27th floor, where The Wilde on 27 opens for brunch at ten with the downtown Calgary skyline running the length of the windows and French toast circulating ahead of the eggs benedict. The hotel itself, a 28-story tower finished in 2022 near Stephen Avenue and the Bow River pathways, builds its whole identity around Oscar Wilde and The Picture of Dorian Gray rather than the generic template of a Marriott Autograph Collection stay, and it carries a title no other hotel in the city holds: Calgary's only Michelin Key property, backed by a DiRoNA award across a dining program split between The Wilde, Prologue Bistro, and Novelle. Inside the theatrics, the 136 rooms are straightforward, minibar, air conditioning, robe and slippers, and the practical layer holds up too, a 24-hour gym, a business center, and close to 4,200 square feet of meeting and event space including the Lord Henry Wotton Ballroom, useful for a conference trip as much as a weekend one. Pets travel for a flat fee, wheelchair access reaches the restaurant, and a 150 CAD damage deposit is taken at check-in. None of this suits anyone after quiet minimalism or a lobby built to disappear; the decor here asks to be looked at, and the story it tells is not subtle. What it offers instead is rare downtown: a hotel with an actual point of view, built around a character rather than a category, in a city where most hotels chase neither. The Dorian is downtown Calgary's only Michelin Key hotel, an Oscar Wilde-themed tower with three restaurants, a rooftop brunch room 27 floors up, and a full events wing. It suits travelers who want personality with their room service, not the standard business hotel that could be anywhere.
