THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias
At Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias, check-in lands at three in the afternoon, and the elevator carries guests up through seven floors to a rooftop terrace that turns a full 360 degrees over the walled city, while the pool one level down catches its own 180-degree stretch of the same rooftops. That combination, rooftop and pool aligned on the historic center rather than the beach strip, is not something the guesthouses tucked into the old town's narrow streets can offer at this scale. With only 32 rooms, the hotel suits a couple who want a spa afternoon of massage and sauna without leaving the property, a solo traveler running a meeting in the conference hall before an evening in the old town, or a family bringing a child under twelve, who stays free aside from insurance and breakfast. It suits less well anyone set on beachfront mornings or a quiet garden courtyard outside the walls. Inside, rooms carry cable TV, a minibar, and room service, and the staff move easily between English and Spanish, useful when concierge, tour assistance, and airport transfers all need arranging before ten. The property is wheelchair accessible throughout, including the route to the restaurant, and a doctor is on call alongside standard first aid provisions. Checkout at one in the afternoon means a late breakfast in the room is a genuine option rather than a rushed one. What stays with most guests afterward is not the room itself but the height, the walled city laid out in a circle, then folded back into narrow streets once the elevator returns to ground level. Thirty-two rooms in Cartagena's walled historic center, with a rooftop terrace that circles the old city and a pool that catches half that view. It suits spa afternoons, business mornings, and families with young children who stay free. It asks little of anyone set on the beach instead.
