THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Le Strato
Morning at Hôtel Le Strato starts with coffee at the window, the rooftops of central Courchevel below and the Cospillot, Etoiles and Jardin Alpin 2 ski lifts a short walk from the door. The hotel offers ski-to-door access and its own ski passes, so the first run does not require a shuttle. Check-in is from 4pm, checkout by 11am. Built in 2009 and kept to six floors and twenty-five rooms, this is a small hotel by Courchevel standards, and that scale shapes everything else: a sauna, steam bath and spa center that rarely feel crowded, a library and conference hall used more like private rooms than hotel amenities, and a playroom that keeps children occupied while adults find the fitness center. Staff switch between English, Spanish, Italian, Russian and French without missing a step, useful where guest lists rarely come from one country. Rooms range from a compact Standard to a family chalet with its own kitchen, sleeping up to six, workable for one skier alone or a family staying two weeks. What sets Le Strato apart from most of Courchevel is its Michelin-starred restaurant, a serious kitchen built into a twenty-five-room hotel rather than bolted onto a much larger resort. None of this is cheap: buffet breakfast runs 56 euros for adults and 21 for children, valet parking 35 euros a day, both settled on site rather than folded into the room rate. Anyone chasing a resort with a dozen restaurants and a big pool scene should look elsewhere; anyone who wants a small hotel that knows the run schedule and speaks their language will not find much to fault. Twenty-five rooms, six floors, a Michelin-starred restaurant and ski-to-door access in central Courchevel: Hôtel Le Strato trades scale for attention. Good for skiers who want to be remembered and families who need a chalet with a kitchen, not for anyone chasing a big resort with multiple restaurants.
