Chateau de Locguenole
Twenty-five hectares of wooded parkland separate Chateau de Locguenole from the Kervignac road, and by the time the drive reaches the nineteenth-century château the only view left is the Ria du Blavet opening toward the sea. The estate divides its 47 rooms across four buildings with distinct characters: the château itself, an eighteenth-century Breton manor, the Orangery facing the pool, and the Club, once the estate's stables. A three-year renovation kept the maritime references intact, a nod to Lorient's trading past, without turning the place precious. What sets it apart from other Relais & Châteaux addresses on this coast is the kitchen: chef Yann Maget, named Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 2023, runs both L'Inattendu, the Michelin-starred restaurant set under a glass roof off the château wing, and La Maison Alyette, the bistro downstairs whose terrace looks past the clearing to the water. Guests who want the estate to themselves for a weekend can book Villa Belém, a Portuguese-style folly with three bedrooms and its own garden, or the Cuckoo Suite, a former henhouse turned into a small hideaway with bunk beds for children next door. There's a heated outdoor pool, a spa with sauna and steam room, tennis, bike hire, and a golf course three kilometres off for anyone restless after a day of forest and shoreline. Pets travel for a fee, and the estate takes wheelchair access seriously, with lift access built in. This isn't a hotel for anyone wanting nightlife or a fast city break; it rewards those willing to slow down for a couple of days in the woods, at the edge of the tide, with a serious kitchen behind them. A 25-hectare Breton estate on the Ria du Blavet, split across a nineteenth-century château, a Breton manor, an orangery, and former stables. Chef Yann Maget, a 2023 Meilleur Ouvrier de France, runs the Michelin-starred L'Inattendu here. Better suited to a slow few days than a quick stopover.

Villa Belém is a standalone hundred-square-metre villa styled after a baroque Lisbon chapel, tucked in greenery two hundred metres from the château. With three bedrooms, a double lounge and a full kitchen, it sleeps up to eight across two families, combining the independence of a private house with the services of the hotel, and has hosted wedding weekends on the estate.
