THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Casadelmar
Casadelmar sits on a hillside above the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, a structure of wood and glass built into three hectares of garden that landscape designer Jean Mus laid out to run down to a private beach. Architect Jean-François Bodin kept the building low and open, so each of the 32 rooms, spread across only two floors, gets its own terrace facing the sea rather than a corridor view. That ratio, one of the lowest room counts of any hotel on this stretch of coast, is the one thing hotels with three times the rooms cannot match: quiet that does not depend on distance from other guests. Mornings run to coffee on the terrace and a walk down to the private beach or the outdoor pool; afternoons move through the spa's sauna, steam room and treatment rooms, or a session in the gym. Dinner splits between two restaurants, Casadelmar and Il Pontile, with a bar for afterward. Staff switch between English, French and Italian without being asked, and a concierge arranges everything from airport transfers, at 300 EUR return, to tours along the coast. Extra beds run 110 EUR a night, depending on room category, a reminder this suits couples and small families more than groups. Check-in is from 4pm, check-out by noon. The hotel sits 3km from central Porto-Vecchio, close enough for dinner in town, far enough that none of it reaches the garden. Anyone wanting bars and boutiques on the doorstep, or a big-brand pool scene, should look elsewhere. Anyone happy to disappear into a Corsican hillside for a few days, with a private beach one flight of stairs down, will not think much about what they are missing. A hillside hotel above the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, built into a three-hectare garden with a private beach and just 32 sea-facing rooms across two floors. It suits couples and small families after quiet, not travelers wanting nightlife on the doorstep.
