Hotel Royal-Riviera
On the tip of Cap-Ferrat, the Royal-Riviera's Cap Bar terrace looks straight down the Baie des Fourmis, and below it sits a private beach that most hotels on this coast only get to view from across the water. The hotel opened in 1904 as the Panorama Palace, changed hands and names for decades, then was redesigned in 1999 in a neo-Hellenistic style by a team that included Ralph Lauren's former artistic director, moving away from the Belle Époque look it had carried, with a palette of olive green, amber and sienna built around its Mediterranean setting. Ninety-four rooms sit across four floors, most with air conditioning, minibars and flat-screen televisions, and the higher categories add sea or garden views. Two restaurants, two bars and a poolside spot cover meals from breakfast through dinner, while a heated pool sits alongside an outdoor pool and that private stretch of sand. A spa with sauna, steam room and massage rooms, a gym, tennis court, diving club and windsurfing keep guests occupied without leaving the grounds, and a playroom with babysitting covers families who bring children under 12, who stay free sharing existing beds. Staff speak English, French, Italian and Turkish, and the concierge desk can arrange the walk to Villa Kerylos or Villa Ephrussi, both close by. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat itself is a former fishing port valued for its tranquillity rather than its nightlife, which suits travellers wanting quiet mornings by water and one view to return to, not people chasing Nice's bars seven kilometres off or a lower nightly rate, given the extra-bed fee and per-night deposit. What lingers is that terrace at dusk, over water this hotel has watched since 1904. A Belle Époque hotel on Cap-Ferrat's tip, redesigned in neo-Hellenistic style in 1999, with a private beach and a terrace bar over the Baie des Fourmis. Ninety-four rooms and two restaurants keep it simple; the quiet suits couples more than anyone chasing Nice's nightlife.

In 1999 hospitality consultant Grace Leo led a renovation of the hotel's public spaces, working with designer Nye Basham, formerly artistic director for Ralph Lauren. The team reworked the entrance, lobby, reception and the Cap Bar with a neo-Hellenistic palette of olive-green, amber and Sienna brown, echoing the property's Mediterranean setting.
