THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Wilder
Behind a Victorian red-brick façade on a quiet residential stretch of Adelaide Road, a short walk from St Stephen's Green, The Wilder Townhouse keeps its thirty rooms modest in scale and specific in character, from the twelve-square-metre Shoebox to the roomier Townhouse Deluxe with its own rainfall shower and Nespresso machine. Mornings happen in the Garden Room, where the kitchen bakes its own Guinness soda bread each day, sources meat from Quigley's Family Butchers, eggs and produce from Keelings, dairy from La Rousse Foods and seafood from Atlantis of Kilmore Quay, and finishes dishes in the oven rather than the fryer; a cooked-to-order breakfast runs an extra EUR 19.50 a head on top of the room rate. The one credential setting it apart from Dublin's other boutique addresses is its membership of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. A garden and terrace give it a rare pocket of quiet this close to the centre, and staff handle bike hire, tour advice, dry cleaning and laundry without fuss. Couples marking an occasion, solo travellers who want a small and well-run base, and business visitors tired of glass-tower lobbies will find the scale suits them; anyone travelling with children, expecting a pool or gym, or bringing a dog should look elsewhere, since none of those are on offer and pets are not accepted. Built in 2018 and spread over three floors with a lift, the house reads less like a hotel than a private Dublin residence that happens to take reservations, and the soda bread alone is worth setting an early alarm for. A thirty-room Victorian townhouse off Adelaide Road, a short walk from St Stephen's Green, with house-baked Guinness soda bread and membership of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Suits couples and solo travellers after a small, personal base; skip it for a pool, gym, or dog-friendly stay.
