THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Park Hotel Kenmare
At the end of a flower-studded drive in Kenmare, past a twisting iron lamppost, stands a hotel that has occupied this stretch of Kerry coastline since 1897. Park Hotel Kenmare sits in the center of town, a place that, by its own description, does not try too hard and stays easy to enjoy rather than rushed. Its 41 rooms and suites look over the gardens or Kenmare Bay, some with private balconies or terraces, and come with bathrobes, slippers and bathtubs as standard. What sets it apart from other coastal hotels of its size is the art: since 2023, owners Bryan and Tara Meehan have hung work by Dorothy Cross, Sean Scully, Guggi, Theaster Gates, Park Seo Bo and Andy Warhol through the corridors of the 1897 building, with daily tours for guests who want the full story. The Landline restaurant, named for a room dedicated to Sean Scully, looks out over the bay and the Caha Mountains while head chef James O'Sullivan, who grew up in West Cork, cooks from the hotel's own herb garden and daily deliveries of local produce. There is a lap pool, a sauna, treatments from Susanne Kaufmann, and golf, hiking, cycling and fishing arranged through the concierge. None of it suits someone chasing nightlife or a fast pace, and pets are not allowed. It suits a traveller happy to spend a morning with coffee and the view before setting out, someone who wants real art on the corridor walls and a restaurant that changes with what the garden gives up that week. The art on the plates, as the kitchen puts it, nods to the art on the walls. Park Hotel Kenmare has stood in the center of this Kerry town since 1897, its corridors hung with work by Sean Scully, Guggi and Andy Warhol. Rooms look over gardens or Kenmare Bay, and the Landline restaurant cooks from its own herb garden. Not for nightlife-seekers or pets.
