THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Blanket Bay Luxury Lodge
Stoney Creek runs past the lodge at Blanket Bay, close enough that trout have been caught at its mouth without needing a boat, on the shore of Lake Wakatipu with the Southern Alps rising behind it. The lodge was built for its owner's love of fly-fishing, and that origin still shows: a helicopter can leave from the lawn and reach private stretches of river within fifteen minutes, water other Queenstown visitors rarely see. With only twelve rooms and an adults-only policy, this suits couples or solo travellers who want quiet over crowds, not families chasing a lively resort scene. Rooms have heated floors, private balconies, and access to a stone fireplace lounge, while the two suite categories add a private courtyard, walk-in closets, and a separate steam shower alongside the bathtub. Dinner runs to a five-course degustation menu built around Central Otago produce in the Main Dining Room, with a full breakfast served each morning from 7:30 to 10. Days can go toward the outdoor pool and steam room, the fitness room, six Specialized bicycles for the lakefront or Mount Aspiring National Park, or a jetboat leaving from the lodge's own jetty on the Dart River. A ski store, business centre, and airport shuttle cover the practical side. Anyone wanting nightlife or a bustling hotel lobby should look toward central Queenstown instead. What lingers is the scale of access on offer: a lodge small enough to know your name, set at the door of rivers and mountains most visitors only glimpse from a bus window. Blanket Bay sits on Lake Wakatipu, built for its owner's love of fly-fishing, with its own jetty and helicopter access to remote trout rivers. Twelve adults-only rooms and a five-course Central Otago dinner menu set it apart from central Queenstown's larger hotels. Not for families or anyone chasing nightlife.
