THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Gleneagles Hotel
Morning at Gleneagles begins with golfers crossing damp fairways before breakfast, coffee in hand, heading toward one of four courses laid across the Auchterarder estate: the King's, the Queen's, the PGA Centenary and the Wee Course. That is the fact no other hotel in this part of Scotland can match, and it shapes everything else here, a 232-room property built around sport and open ground rather than a single grand facade. Inside, the pace slows: a heated pool and a separate outdoor pool, a sauna, steam room and massage rooms, a fitness area and a yoga space for anyone who would rather stretch than swing a club. The estate stretches further into fishing, hiking, tennis, cycling and bike rental, plus a conference hall and meeting rooms for groups who combine business with a round or two. Families get a playroom and babysitting, and couples planning a wedding will find a bridal suite among the room categories, which range from a 269 square foot Classic Double to a 969 square foot Luxury Suite with a view. Staff speak eight languages, including French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, and pets are allowed, which is unusual at this level of formality. Restaurants extend from the informal Garden Cafe to Andrew Fairlie, one of several named dining rooms across the estate. None of this suits someone who wants a compact city hotel within reach of galleries and nightlife; this is a rural estate built around golf and grounds, not a base for hopping between city sights. For anyone who wants four golf courses, a full spa and open ground within the same walk, though, there is little competition nearby. Gleneagles pairs four golf courses, including the PGA Centenary, with a full spa, an outdoor and heated pool, and a 232-room estate near Auchterarder. It suits golfers, spa regulars and families more than anyone chasing city nightlife. Andrew Fairlie and the Garden Cafe cover both ends of its dining range.

Your taste already has an address

Beyond treatment rooms, sauna and steam facilities, Gleneagles' wellness offering extends to a dedicated Spa, Gym & Swim programme and a Beauty Lodge, set out as its own section of the estate. It gives guests a full day's wellness itinerary rather than a single spa visit, fitting the property's broader emphasis on outdoor and indoor pursuits.
