THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Langham London
Regent Street runs past the entrance, a few minutes' walk from the shops of Oxford and Bond Street. The Langham opened its doors here in 1865, and the group's own history begins with this address, before any other hotel carrying the name existed elsewhere in the world. Nine floors hold 380 rooms behind a facade the group's own material calls charming, blending into refined surroundings rather than announcing itself. Inside, the range on offer beats most hotels nearby: an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room, massage treatments and Chuan Spa, the group's own award-winning spa brand, sit alongside a library, uncommon among hotels of this size. Staff work across ten languages, from Arabic and Japanese to Russian and Polish, useful in a city that draws guests from everywhere. Rooms carry mini-bars, bathrobes, blackout blinds and soundproofing, which matters this close to Regent Street's traffic. Families get their own rooms and kids' television channels, and travellers with pets can bring them along for a fee. None of it is inexpensive: an extra bed costs £240 a night, and a pet stay adds its own deposit on top. This is not a quiet retreat for someone wanting to disappear from the city, and it is not built for a traveller pricing every extra. It suits someone who wants Regent Street's shopping and history on the doorstep, delivered by a hotel old enough that the details were earned rather than designed. Few competitors nearby can offer a pool, a library and a dedicated spa brand all under the same roof. Opened in 1865 on Regent Street, The Langham London is the address the whole chain traces back to, with an indoor pool, spa and library rare at this scale. It suits shoppers and business travellers near Oxford and Bond Street, not those counting every extra fee.
