THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Chicago Athletic Association Hotel
The basketball hoops are still mounted in Stagg Court, the original court from when this building was Chicago's members-only Athletic Association, before the club opened its doors and became a 240-room hotel on Michigan Avenue, a few steps from Millennium Park. That layered history is what separates it from newer downtown builds: four ballrooms keep their original stained glass and floor-to-ceiling windows, and the Michelin Guide has awarded it a Guide Key for the authenticity of the experience rather than a generic checklist of comforts. Pritzker Pavilion, Crown Fountain and the Art Institute of Chicago sit within a ten-minute walk, so days can move between museum galleries and the hotel's own dining rooms, Cindy's on the rooftop, Midōsuji from Boka Restaurant Group, the Drawing Room, Fairgrounds and Shake Shack. Across nineteen floors, rooms carry bathrobes, slippers and mini-bars, with indoor fireplaces in some categories, and the property holds a Green Key Global eco-rating rather than making the claim itself. There's a sauna, a fitness center, a library, and a playroom for a family stopover, along with a genuinely busy calendar of weddings, karaoke nights and art exhibitions that makes this a social address more than a quiet one. Staff speak English, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese, pets are welcome, and concierge service is on hand for a solo trip or a work stint. Check-in runs from 3pm, checkout is noon, and a $100 nightly deposit covers any damage. What stays with you afterward is that sense of a private club turned inside out, still furnished like one, now letting everyone in. Chicago Athletic Association still has the basketball hoops from its members-only past, now wrapped around 240 rooms, four ballrooms and a rooftop bar near Millennium Park. It suits history lovers and a lively social calendar more than anyone chasing quiet. Pets and multilingual staff included.

The hotel houses four distinct wedding venues, each with its own historic character, from a ballroom with original stained glass and floor-to-ceiling windows to a more playful room with vintage basketball hoops, blending nineteenth-century craftsmanship with monumental fireplaces for celebrations at the front door of Millennium Park.
