THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Tampa EDITION
At four in the afternoon, the Sun Deck at The Tampa EDITION catches the last of the direct sun before Amalie Arena's evening crowds start filtering past, a kilometre away, and Sparkman Wharf's waterfront stalls light up for dinner service. The hotel sits inside Marriott's network but operates as one of EDITION's individualized, "anti-hotel chain" properties, and that distinction shows: 172 rooms, none of the templated feel some large-chain neighbours carry. Rooms are compact by design, most running 400 square feet with blackout blinds, a minibar, a safe and a proper desk, so anyone chasing family-size sprawl should look instead to the 1,216-square-foot Standard Single Suite, the one booking here that genuinely stretches out. A sauna and spa sit alongside a fitness centre and gym, and the pool and Sun Deck give the property a resort pace despite its downtown-adjacent address, a set-up that suits guests here for meetings in the Conference Hall or for events at Amalie Arena more than families in tow. Pets are welcome, for a $250 deposit per stay, and a concierge, dry-cleaning and laundry service handle the logistics travellers no longer want to manage themselves. Check-in runs from 4pm, check-out at noon, ordinary enough not to trip anyone up. Nearby, USF Health's Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation places medical-conference guests within walking distance, which quietly explains some of the mix in the bar most evenings. What this hotel has that its neighbours mostly don't is that plain refusal to read like a chain at all, even while sitting inside Marriott's own network. The Tampa EDITION sits a kilometre from Amalie Arena and Sparkman Wharf, with 172 rooms, a spa, sauna, pool and gym inside Marriott's network. Rooms run compact at 400 square feet, so the 1,216-square-foot Standard Single Suite is the one to book for space.
