THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Quoin Hotel
The Quoin occupies 24 rooms in a downtown building at 519 N Market Street, a kilometre from central Wilmington and within walking distance of Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, World Cafe Live at the Queen and the Delaware Theatre Company. Rooms run from a compact 334 square feet to a 418-square-foot king, each with blackout blinds, a mini bar, bathrobes and hypoallergenic bedding, decorated with the vintage furnishings, printed wallpapers and artwork that made the Michelin Guide note the hotel had dropped the boutique-hotel habit of minimalism. Downstairs, The Quoin Restaurant serves wood-fired Northern Italian food and handmade pasta at an open kitchen counter, the kind of place that once drew the Bidens for dinner during a stay in Wilmington. Below it, Simmer Down occupies the building's former vault, "The Money Room," now a cocktail lounge under a hand-painted mural and original brick ceiling, recently named one of Esquire's Best Bars in America 2024. On the top floor, the rooftop lounge is Wilmington's first and only rooftop bar, looking out over the Old Town Hall steeple and the courtyard below. None of this suits anyone chasing a resort or an anonymous stay: this is a small, opinionated hotel built for people who want a serious restaurant and a good drink within an elevator ride of their room. Business travellers get a conference hall and event space for meetings that need somewhere sharper than a chain; couples get a wedding-ready rooftop and dining room. Check-in is at 4pm, check-out at 11am, and reception is staffed around the clock. Wilmington sits halfway between New York and DC, and The Quoin gives it a reason to stop. A 24-room boutique hotel in downtown Wilmington built around three distinct venues: an Italian restaurant that once drew the Bidens, a former vault turned cocktail lounge named among Esquire's Best Bars in America 2024, and the city's only rooftop bar. Not for guests wanting resort scale or anonymity.
