THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Vue Hotel Hou Hai
Houhai's lakeside lanes sit four kilometers from downtown Beijing, and Vue Hotel Hou Hai positions its eighty rooms within walking distance of the Back Lakes, the Bell and Drum Towers, and Beihai Park, where cyclists and hutong wanderers thread past courtyard walls. Among the amenity list that distinguishes this five-star property from its downtown competitors is something rare for a city hotel: hiking trails, a nod to the grounds beyond the usual gym-and-spa formula. Rooms run from a Standard Queen or King at 291 square feet to Deluxe King and Twin layouts at 334, each with a private bathroom, minibar, coffee and tea maker, and a balcony or terrace; bathrobes and slippers are standard, and room service covers whatever else is missing. Business travelers get a dedicated meeting setup, a conference hall and a business center, while the concierge and tour desk handle everything from currency exchange to ticket bookings. Families traveling with extra guests should know the extra bed runs 450 CNY a night, and the room category decides how many beds fit. Check-in starts at 2pm, checkout at noon, and the 24-hour front desk covers whatever falls outside those hours. This suits someone who wants Houhai's lakeside rhythm without sacrificing a proper business floor, not someone chasing a rooftop pool or a high-rise view: there's no listed pool here, and the lobby's charm is in its neighborhood, not its skyline. GPS coordinates in China are shifted by national mandate, so the map pin will lie before the hutong alleys tell the truth. Houhai's lakeside lanes are four kilometers from downtown, and this five-star hotel's eighty rooms sit close to the Back Lakes and Bell and Drum Towers. Hiking trails round out an amenity list built for business travelers as much as lake-walkers.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

The property occupies a renovated 1950s government complex set directly on the shore of Houhai Lake, paired with an interior design that layers art installations referencing Chinese culture through the courtyard. The result is a mid-century shell reworked into a design-forward hutong retreat with lake views.

Several guest rooms feature windows that look directly onto the hotel's local courtyards, a design quirk noted by travel guides covering the property. The effect ties each room back to the hutong setting outside, letting guests watch courtyard life rather than facing an ordinary interior wall or hallway.
Air conditioning ensures that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Rooms include a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A desk is provided. A telephone, a TV and WiFi (no extra charge) provide all the essentials for a comfortable vacation. Slippers are included. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower and include a hairdryer. As a special feature, bathrooms are also stocked with cosmetic products and a selection of towels.
Fine weather can be enjoyed on the terrace. After an eventful day, guests can work out and recharge in the gym. Copyright GIATA 2004 - 2026. Multilingual, powered by www.giata.com for client no. 703681
