THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Solly Hotel Paris
The hotel takes its name from its address, Rue Salomon de Caus, a quiet street off a tree-lined square in the 3rd arrondissement, named after the Renaissance architect, engineer, and mathematician who once lived here. The building dates from 1911, renovated most recently in 2023, positioned usefully between the Pompidou Centre and the Marais, and close enough to the Canal Saint-Martin that you can get there without a plan and find something worth the detour. Solly hotel has 51 rooms across eight floors, individually designed with parquet floors, a black, white, and beige palette, walls hung with framed oil paintings and lithographs, and speckled marble bathrooms. The rooms that face the square are the ones to ask for, and the junior suites and suites with balconies overlooking the Gaîté-Lyrique and the Paris rooftops are worth the step up, the cosy and comfort rooms being compact in the way that Paris rooms tend to be. The breakfast room has an Art Nouveau glass roof that makes it the most luminous part of the building at that hour, and the open kitchen on the ground floor runs from morning to evening for coffee, a snack, or no particular reason at all. The hotel positions itself as somewhere between a guesthouse and a Parisian hotel, which is a fine line to walk and one it manages with enough ease that you stop thinking about the distinction. The neighbourhood does a lot of the work: the 3rd is where people who live in Paris tend to end up, and the streets between here and the Marais are the kind you walk without a destination and find yourself returning to. The short version: A quietly beautiful 1911 building in the 3rd, renovated with real care, with an Art Nouveau breakfast room, 51 individually designed rooms, and a location that puts the best of the Marais within easy reach. Michelin Guide listed.

Some of the hotel's 51 rooms, spread across eight floors, come with a fitted balcony and views over the Gaîté-Lyrique and the rooftops of Paris. It is a detail worth requesting for travelers who want a quiet perch above the 3rd arrondissement's rooftops rather than a street-level outlook.
