El Llorenç sits on Plaza de Llorenç Villalonga in La Calatrava, the neighbourhood built into Palma's old city walls, within a ten-minute walk of the cathedral and the Basilica of St. Francis. The hotel keeps to 33 rooms across four floors and is adults-only from age sixteen, which suits couples and solo travellers after quiet mornings rather than families travelling with young children. What it has that neighbouring hotels do not is the rooftop: a 12-metre pool the hotel describes as the longest infinity pool in the city, paired with a cocktail bar and gourmet snacks over the bay of Palma. Downstairs, the Wellness Studio holds a 14-metre heated pool, a jacuzzi, steam bath, ice fountain and sauna, with spa access included for guests who book directly. Rooms come with Egyptian cotton sheets, down comforters and an iPad; the Junior Suite runs to 35 square metres and the Suite Sea View to 40, the latter opening onto two balconies over the bay. Swedish designer Magnus Ehrland shaped the interiors around a repeating star pattern, and paintings by Mallorcan artist Toni Font run through the public rooms, so the design carries as much weight here as the location. Dinner runs through DINS, the in-house restaurant with its own bar and lounge, and breakfast is cooked to order each morning for a separate fee. Anyone travelling with children should look elsewhere; anyone who wants a design-forward stay anchored by that rooftop pool, in the middle of old Palma, will find little to match it nearby.
