The Reserve opened in Funchal in 2019 with only 39 rooms, the newest and smallest hotel in the Savoy Signature collection, carrying The Leading Hotels of the World name as well. It sits close to the city center, an easy walk to Santa Catarina Park, the CR7 Museum and La Vie Shopping Center. Inside, the appeal is what a 39-room property can afford to do properly: a spa center, a bar, a restaurant built around local cuisine, a tour desk that arranges excursions directly, and a concierge, laundry and dry cleaning on call rather than listed as extras. Rooms are built for staying in. The Deluxe Suite runs 69 square metres with its own living room, the Corner Suite trades size, 45 square metres, for a pool view, and the Deluxe Queen Room sits on a high floor. Savoy Signature calls The Reserve "Exclusively Yours," built around sea-view rooms, the signature this specific hotel is sold on within the group's Madeira collection. None of this is aimed at families on a budget: an extra bed runs 75 EUR a night, a security deposit of 800 EUR per room is required at check-in, and pets, though welcome, cost 100 EUR for the stay. It suits a couple or solo traveller after a small, sea-facing stay, not a family working around the extra-bed surcharge and deposit. Check-in is at 2pm, check-out at noon, ordinary hours for a hotel that otherwise resists being ordinary. The Reserve keeps to 39 rooms in Funchal, opened in 2019, with a spa, pool and concierge but none of the scale of its Savoy sister hotels. Rooms sit within walking distance of Santa Catarina Park and the CR7 Museum, built for staying in, not just sleeping through.
