THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Kensington
The Kensington opens its concierge desk to a request most South Kensington hotels cannot fulfil: a walk through the Science Museum before the public gets in, listed as one of the hotel's own concierge experiences rather than a bought-in extra. The same instinct shows in the hotel's own V&A Experience offer, treating the neighbourhood's museums as an extension of the address rather than a nearby attraction to point guests toward. Part of the Doyle Collection, alongside sister properties like The Westbury and The Marylebone, the hotel keeps its room sizes honest: Cosy Rooms start at 150 square feet, useful for a short solo stay but tight for anyone bringing more than a carry-on, while the Kensington Suite stretches to 1,938 square feet, room enough to work, eat and receive guests without leaving the door. Classic and Deluxe rooms sit in between, air conditioned with free Wi-Fi throughout, and the Classic Twin adds a marble bathroom and a Nespresso machine. Families get a dedicated Family Room with two double beds and a separate bath and shower, and the hotel keeps a full amenities page for travelling with dogs, rather than treating pets as an afterthought. Dining runs from Town House and the Drawing Room to the K Bar, with a separate afternoon tea in Kensington, and The Study gives meetings a smaller, quieter room than the main function spaces. The hotel markets itself plainly as a business hotel in London, so anyone hoping for late-night bar culture or a West End postcode should look elsewhere. What lingers after checkout is the museum key, not the marble. The Kensington sits in South Kensington's museum quarter, where the concierge can arrange a walk through the Science Museum before opening. Rooms span a 150-square-foot Cosy Room to the 1,938-square-foot Kensington Suite, with marble bathrooms and a pet-friendly welcome. Not a hotel for late nights out.
