THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Palazzo Zimara Boutique Hotel
In a 1557 palazzo on Via Giuseppe Libertini, in the historic center of Lecce, a chandelier still hangs over the bed in Suite 14 exactly as it did when Ferzan Özpetek shot his award-winning film Loose Cannons in the room in 2010. Palazzo Zimara has had several lives since it was built for the philosopher Teofilo Zimara: passed to the Discalced Teresian Fathers, rented by Genoese nobility, sold to a Lecce doctor, then to a family whose son later became Lecce's mayor, before sitting empty and finally reopening in 2024 under the D'Angelo family with 15 suites. What no comparable Lecce boutique hotel offers is Radino, the in-house wine bistrot pouring only the wines this family of winemakers grows and bottles itself, Aglianico, Primitivo, Negramaro, alongside cigars and small plates into the night. La Bocca restaurant works the same km0 logic at dinner, explaining each dish rather than just serving it, in a dining room or the courtyard garden. There is a garden, a concierge desk, laundry and dry-cleaning, and staff who will sort tour bookings, but there is no elevator, so anyone who needs one, or who is travelling with a crib or wants a rollaway bed, should look elsewhere; neither is available here, and pets are not allowed either. This suits someone who wants a five-century-old building's history under her feet and a glass of home-grown wine in hand rather than a lobby full of luggage carts. It does not suit someone chasing a pool, a gym, or a big hotel's anonymity. Fifteen rooms, one family's cellar, one film set. That is the whole pitch. Built in 1557 and reopened in 2024, Palazzo Zimara sits in Lecce's historic center with 15 suites, a wine bistrot pouring its own home-grown vintages, and the room where Özpetek filmed Loose Cannons. No elevator, no pool: this rewards history and wine over convenience.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Tucked inside the 16th-century palazzo, the interior patio and garden offer a quiet green retreat from Lecce's historic streets. The space is original to the building's layout and remains one of the calmest corners of the property, used by guests for a slow morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.
