THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
L'Horizon Resort & Spa
Twenty-five bungalows spread across three acres of manicured desert ground in Palm Springs, each with its own patio and outdoor shower, a layout unchanged since William F. Cody built the place in 1952 for a clientele that included Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and a run of American presidents. L'Horizon Resort & Spa, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, keeps that scale deliberately small: one floor, twenty-five rooms, no lobby to cross before reaching the pool. Steve Hermann's redesign layered in Frette linens, Le Labo toiletries, and marble baths without erasing the mid-century bones, and the result reads as private residence rather than resort. That privacy is the thing few resorts this size can offer: every bungalow opens directly onto its own patio, so guests move between bed, shower, and heated pool without crossing a corridor. The spa's four treatment rooms and white canvas cabanas sit under the same mountain views, and massages, facials, and body treatments run alongside a fresh juice bar and complimentary weekend yoga. Guests bring dogs here too, for a one-time cleaning fee, provided the animal stays leashed in common areas. This is an adults-only address, twenty-one and over, so it suits couples and solo travellers who want quiet over activity, not families chasing a splash pad. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner move between the pool bar and in-room dining, with SO•PA's fire pits and its twenty-six-foot walnut communal table for evenings that call for something more composed. Camelot Park, Cameron Center, and Canyon Estates Golf Course sit a few kilometers off if the grounds start to feel too contained. Most nights, though, guests don't leave the three acres at all. Twenty-five bungalows, one floor, three acres of Palm Springs desert: a Cody-built 1952 property redesigned by Steve Hermann for adults only. Private patios, outdoor showers, and a spa with mountain views replace hallways and crowds. Dogs come too, for a fee.
