THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage
The San Jacinto Mountains sit right behind the property, and from the grounds you can walk into the neighborhood, toward the Coachella Valley Repertory Theater, Agua Caliente Casino Cathedral City, or Sabain Massage, though the resort itself is 18 kilometers from the city center. The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage opened in 1988 and never went vertical: 260 rooms spread across three floors, which keeps arrival and departure unhurried and gives most rooms a route straight outside rather than a lobby to cross. Two outdoor pools sit alongside an indoor one, and the spa runs to massage, sauna, and steam room, the kind of full circuit a couple traveling without kids will actually use across a long weekend. What sets it apart from other desert resorts is the range built for families that split down the middle: a golf course and horse riding for those who want the grounds to feel large, bowling and mini golf for the ones who don't, plus a kids club and playroom so parents can hand off for an hour without leaving the property. A restaurant, bar, and snack bar cover the basics, and staff answer in English and Spanish. Pets travel too, for a 350 dollar deposit per stay, which matters if the trip only works with the dog along. Someone hoping for a boutique, walk-everywhere stay should look elsewhere; this is a resort built to be self-contained, and it succeeds mostly because of the horses, not the pool count. A 260-room resort in the San Jacinto Mountains, built in 1988 across three low floors. Golf, horse riding, bowling, mini golf, and a full spa sit alongside a kids club and playroom, and pets are welcome for a 350 dollar deposit. Not the pick for a walk-everywhere weekend.
