THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Grand Hôtel Bellevue
Norfolk Square is the kind of London garden square that makes Paddington feel like a different postcode, and the Grand Hôtel Bellevue occupies a Victorian townhouse right on it, five floors, sixty rooms, a fireplace and cosy couches in a lobby that architect Fabrizio Casiraghi built around a dialogue between English reserve and French flourish. Rooms range from a 75 square foot Standard Single Cabin up to a 377 square foot Grand Single Suite with Sofa, with categories like Superior, Deluxe and Executive in between. What sets this address apart is Studio Nohrd, the in-house gym: chequerboard tiles, Persian-style rugs and mahogany-panelled workout machines, booked in advance because it doubles as one of the more photogenic rooms in the building. The Pondicherry Bar, its walls lined with bespoke embroidery by BODE, runs from morning coffee to late cocktails. Staff speak English, French, Italian, Polish and Spanish, and the hotel sits fifteen minutes from Heathrow and St Pancras, an easy walk from Hyde Park, Oxford Street and Little Venice. None of this suits anyone travelling with reduced mobility: the entrance and several rooms are stairs-only, and the two lifts don't change that, though staff will carry bags without being asked twice. It suits a traveller who wants character over square footage and doesn't mind climbing a flight to get to it, someone who'd rather book a workout slot in a room with Persian rugs than queue for a treadmill. Check-in is from 3pm, checkout by noon, and a 50 GBP daily deposit covers any damage, worth knowing before you arrive rather than after. A Victorian townhouse on Norfolk Square in Paddington, fifteen minutes from Heathrow, with a gym dressed in Persian rugs and mahogany that has to be booked in advance. The stairs-only entrance rules out anyone needing step-free access, everyone else gets sixty rooms of genuine character.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Set in a time-honoured Victorian residence on peaceful Norfolk Square, the hotel was reimagined by architect Fabrizio Casiraghi around an imaginary dialogue between an English aristocrat and his flamboyant, art-loving wife. Fireplaces and cosy couches in the lobby set a warm, homely tone the moment guests step through the door.
