THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Fasano Sao Paulo
Hotel Fasano São Paulo sits at the corner of Avenida Paulista and Brigadeiro Faria Lima, where an English brick façade and period fixtures interrupt a skyline built mostly of glass. Sixty rooms are spread across twenty-three floors, a small number for a city this size, and the effect is closer to a private club than a hub. That scale matters, because this address is where the Fasano family, a century into running restaurants that trace back to Vittorio Fasano's 1902 Brasserie Paulista, opened their first hotel in 2003. The kitchen came before the beds, and it shows: the restaurant is built for traditional Italian cooking, the bar leans into a quieter kind of evening, and the cafe has the confidence of people who have been serving coffee since before the building existed. Rooms are soundproofed against Paulista's traffic and finished with bathrobes, minibars and DVD players rather than gadgets that will date badly. There is an indoor and an outdoor pool, a sauna, a gym, and a business center for the meetings that this stretch of São Paulo exists to host. Pets are welcome for a fee, and families can request an extra bed or a children's breakfast. This suits someone who wants a serious address for business by day and a serious dinner by night, without the scale of a convention hotel. It will not suit anyone chasing a beach view or a resort's worth of grounds; this is a vertical, urban property. What no comparable hotel on Avenida Paulista can claim is that history: the restaurant business is a hundred years older than the hotel around it. Hotel Fasano São Paulo is the first hotel a century-old restaurant family opened, in 2003, at the corner of Avenida Paulista. Sixty soundproofed rooms, a pool, a sauna and a kitchen built on that older reputation suit a serious business trip, not a beach holiday.
